Personal Expressionism and Body Piercings - Why The Stigma?

The other day, I was at Starbucks and I noted that there was a gal sitting in the corner with body piercings. I'm sure you've seen this before with the nose ring, and other ornamental pieces pierced through the skin. She indeed also had some rather interesting tattoos, and other folks in the Starbucks didn't know what to make of her, as there was an older couple sitting across from her that would even look over.

Since the gal was alone, I decided to start up a conversation with her. Apparently, she was waiting for her boyfriend to come, and when he did he also had body piercings. Okay so let's talk about this for second shall we?
Some might assume that those folks that have decorative body art have low self-esteem, and perhaps that's why they went and did this. Some might think that they are quirky or a little off. Some people might even consider it weird, disgusting, and totally socially unacceptable. Still, I ask; why the stigma? There was nothing wrong with this girl, she was quite pleasant, and so was her boyfriend, and they enjoyed the personal expressionism that came with their attached art. It is their body, no one else's, therefore it's no one else's business, and we should applaud their individuality, not condemn it.
After all, in the United States we are allowed freedom and liberty, and they are thoroughly enjoying theirs, and why shouldn't they. Now you might say it is socially unacceptable, and they can't work in a corporate office, or do a lot of other things because of how they look now. But if society makes those rules to avoid them, chastise them, or cast them out, then society is the one with the problem, not the individual who decides to express themselves - oh and a little FYI here as I am writing this, I do not personally have any tattoos or body piercings, and I'm just approaching this from a psychological and philosophical level.
You might think that they wouldn't have very many friends, but they are bonded by their expressionism and body piercings with other folks like them, and it is a counterculture, and their group is much tighter than the overall society, or all of your friends on Facebook for that matter. Next time you see someone with body piercings, why not just go up and say hi, I think if you do and you talk with them for a few moments, you'll begin to see exactly what I'm saying here today. Don't be so judgmental. We are told not to judge a book by its cover, and yet in society we seem to do every single day; why? Please consider all this and think on it.

How to Care for Your Body Piercing

Will Various Computational Cyborg Human Body Add-Ons Become Considered Body Art?

Well, it's already starting to happen, humans are getting new non-organic parts for various reasons. Some folks have had a serious injury and lost limbs, eyesight, hearing, or something of this nature. Often these parts come with electronic components to help control them. Something we've already seen is that many of these folks have attempted to individualize their new parts, while they grow fond of them. It gives them a sense of self. Now then, isn't this the same reason that people get body piercings, tattoos, and add-on art like components? Okay let's talk about this for second shall we?

Not long ago, I was reading in the major media where someone who had cyborg glasses to help them see better had a group of individuals come up to him at McDonald's and tried to steal his classes. Unfortunately, they were attached to his skull, and they were connected to a sub-dermal computer component. When the thugs ripped the glasses from his head, they caused not only damage to the components, but also to his person. Okay so, why did they do this?
Well we know they were part of the dredges of society, and they probably liked the idea of having these glasses for themselves, thought they could hock them or sell them, that they might be worth something of valuable, and perhaps it was so different and foreign to them that in essence they were afraid in a way, which brought out the fight responses in their brains, perhaps without them knowing it. One could call such an event a hate crime. When I saw that in the news, it made me stop to consider that in the future all of these extra components that are added to people's body will be personalized.
Consider if you will that your add-on memory right now is in your iPhone or personal tech device. Anyone who buys an iPad buys a really nice cover so they can personalize it, and if you buy a new Dell laptop you can get different types of covers or plastic to make it stylish and individualized. It appears to me that in the future all these cyborg human body parts will also become body art which seems to be a human need, but it also maintains their sense of self even if they aren't completely organically whole anymore. Indeed, I would like you to please consider all this on a philosophical and psychological level, and what it really means for future. So think on it.

Body Piercings And Beautiful Peacocks

Not long ago, I was at Starbucks, and it happened to be one which was near a major freeway. A gal came in with a group of friends, and she had a brilliant colorful tattoo on her back shoulder, I asked her what it was, and she told me it was a peacock. I thought that was very interesting, and she said she loved it. She pulled down one of her straps so I could see the whole thing, wow it was incredible. Then I noticed that she had some body piercing to accentuate the peacock, with some sub-dermal pieces to create a slight bulge for the beak, and the ends of the feathers.

Indeed, I'd say she went all out on this, and it was the ultimate expression of personal individuality that I had seen in a long time. It was truly a work of art, and the girl was fairly good-looking, so she didn't need anything to make her look beautiful, she did it because she loved the look. It was so impressive, I was taken aback with the beautiful bird on her back. When body piercings are done in conjunction with colorful tattoos they make a bold statement. This one certainly did, and although I didn't ask her if she had been in any magazines, it seems to me that if she hasn't, she could probably walk into just about any counterculture type magazine and they would do a photo-shoot of her.
Was it over the top? Perhaps it might be if one were to ask your parents what they thought, but she wore it so well, in such a dignified way that it accentuated her beauty and her personality. I doubt if anyone could say it was in poor taste, it was truly remarkable, a literal walking piece of art. It's too bad that more people don't see this reality, as they are too caught-up in their mental boxes to understand the freedom and expression enjoyed by those that display this living artwork. Interestingly enough, her and her friends were going to the river for the weekend, and she had a strapless bikini that she was going to wear so everyone could see it.
It's hard to describe in words how remarkable this was, or the soft-spoken personality of the owner of this colorful tattoo/body piercing hybrid art. I certainly hope I've done it justice here in this article today, and if there's anything I'd like for you to take away from this philosophical thought - it is this; when artwork as beautiful as this peacock adorns the body of a gorgeous woman, it is art, pure and simple. Therefore it is time for society to ditch the stigma of those who enjoy personal expression of their own body.

How Much Do Tragus Piercings Hurt?

One of the initial things many people find out whenever they are deciding to acquire a piercing is often "does this hurt?" Also, more precisely, "how much can it cause pain?" Unfortunately piercings are piercings and that means placing a needle in areas of one's body so as to make one or more holes in which you can potentially wear pieces of jewelry. When having piercings, there's definitely going to be some quantity of discomfort. Nevertheless the total quantity of the pain can vary a great deal based on various factors.

One particular aspect is the skill of one's piercer and just how outstanding they happen to be at completing the particular piercing conveniently, safely but also expertly. Now this isn't really a concern you'll have to be concerned with providing you pick a trustworthy piercing place. You should definitely check that the shop make use of piercing needles and never piercing guns for all the piercings.
One other variable which can often impact the level of pain and discomfort a certain person experiences when getting ones tragus pierced may perhaps be the individual themselves. Pain is truly a very subjective experience and although a touch of pain and discomfort can be endurable to many individuals, other ones might find it extremely difficult to handle. A good deal will depend on the person and their respective pain limit.
The kind of jewelry you chose to have put in when your piercing is completed can sometimes bring about or help save you from a little bit of unnecessary pain and discomfort. A round piece like a captive bead ring could possibly be a bit more tricky to fit when compared with a straight accessory such as a barbell. Therefore it is advisable to go with a straight bit of jewelry like for example a barbell any time you are having your tragus pierced.
The key factor which usually determines just how much pain and discomfort felt due to a piercing often is the site of the piercing. More often than not, a tragus piercing does not hurt very much at all. Nearly all people grade the pain as being 3 to 4 in a scale of 1 to 10, 10 as most unpleasant. For lots of people, the discomfort can be noticed when the needle pierces their skin on both sides of the tragus seeing that the cartilage material inside does not possess any nerve endings. The discomfort can be equal to and in some cases not as much as that experienced when getting your ears pierced, no greater than a bee sting.
A number of people experience a slight dull discomfort or simply a sensation of pressure around or on the tragus shortly after the piercing is finished. This is a sign that the blood is flowing around the area of the brand-new piercing so the body may start the process of healing. It's not really unheard of to see a bit of blood on your piercing soon after but that's nothing you ought to be anxious about provided you keep the piercing really clean according to the aftercare suggestions given to you by the piercer.
Those that would really like a tragus piercing but are particularly concerned about the potential soreness, you should consult with the piercing shop if they numb your tragus for your benefit before hand. Not every piercing place practice numbing, but some do or may on request therefore it is no doubt worthwhile inquiring. Should your particular piercing place not do numbing you could take a look around for a place that can.
Several people claim that you are able to hear a 'pop' when the needle pierces the cartilage of one's tragus however it definitely seems to be a bit of a myth since several people don't hear a thing. So, to conclude, there truly is not a great deal to be concerned about since many individuals who've had a tragus piercing done are really surprised at just how slight this specific piercing hurts. A few people even have to inquire if it's done when it is!

We Can Often Tell What Tattoos Mean, But What Do Body Piercings Say About You? - Ask the FBI

As a society, are we too quick to judge people who have body piercings and tattoos. Although I don't have any personally, and no one in my immediate family seems to, that I know about, it does appear that there is a negative stigma, that shouldn't really exist. I have a few reasons for believing this, one is I think it is human nature, as we've noted with tribal people, and many of our ancestors. Secondly, individuality should be garnered as a positive in our society, not a negative. Okay so let's talk.

Something has come to my attention recently which is somewhat bothersome, it appears that the FBI wants to figure out what tattoos mean about a person's personality, and what type of tattoos are certain people with certain personalities more likely to get. That seems problematic to me. No, I am not for Iris scans, fingerprinting the whole world, or all this Facebook recognition technology on the social networks on the Internet either. I know for a fact from reading research papers that the human iris changes over one's life based on their health condition, their diet, exposure to UV radiation, and all sorts of other things as well.
"What does your tattoo say about you? The FBI wants to know," was the title of an article appearing in NextGov Online News on July 17, 2012 posted by Aliya Sternstein which stated;
"The FBI is working with police tech vendors and local police to interpret the symbolism of tattoos to catch crooks and terrorists. This will be added to Iris and Facial Recognition, they already have fingerprint data. The mass collection of multiple biometric markers, potentially including vocal tracks and handwriting samples, has upset immigrant communities who say the FBI and DHS are misusing the technology to deport innocent people."
Still, isn't this stereotyping? It seems us citizens are not allowed to stereotype as that is considered a no-no, political correct, and lord help us if we make an inappropriate comment; can you say hate crime? And yet, the government is instituting profiling and stereotyping of anyone who is different, treating them as if they are the evil joker in a Batman movie. Why are we stereotyping, and what does all this mean. Someone with no tattoos could just as well turn out to be a criminal, as someone who does have tattoos.
Some people might say that those who don't have tattoos are more integrated into society, and are less likely do a crime, but as soon as we say that, we are attacking a minority that we very much need, that minority believes in individuality, and they are exercising their freedom of expression. That's a good thing, that's what the US stands for, and we need more people who believe that. We do not need a society that looks like the Borg, yuk, where everyone is the same, and no one dares to step out of line, or wear a bright color unless it is Friday. You see my point? Please consider all this and think on it.

Ixtepec ART Tattoo SHOP Body piercing) Edition

Let's Get Pierced!

Body piercing is a culture whose roots go back in the ancient human history. The procedure of piercing implies puncturing some certain part of the body in order to create an opening to insert a jewelry piece. As it has already been mentioned, it has been practiced for centuries among various tribal cultures such as African, Australian, Mexican, Indian and many others. People used to adorn and modify their bodies with the help of rings, plates, tusks inserted into their ears, lips, noses and many other parts of their bodies. But ear piercing has definitely always been on top of the popularity list. It doesn't take a long time for the ear to get healed and it's easy to look after, more than that there is a huge variety of jewelry to choose among, so you can change it whenever you would like and look different every day.

Ear accessories vary according to their gauge size. It may start with 0,8mm which is equivalent to size 20ga and go right up to 0ga which is 8mm. Recent trends show that it has become highly stylish to wear big gauges and ear plugs starting with size 8ga and wider. And if you're in, we are here to give you some valuable advice on how to make such a cool piercing, keep it in perfect health and choose the right accessories to look unique every day. With the decision of having your ears pierced should come the understanding that as a rule it's made for a long time and becomes a unique part of you. That's why it should be a well-considered decision.
Generally, there exist three ways of having a pair of big gauge plugs inserted in your ears. The first one, which is at the same time the most painless and humane, is stretching a small ear lobe opening up to the desired width. The second way represents a pretty painful procedure of the so-called scalpelling. A surgical scalpel is used to slit an ear lobe so that a big gauge could fit perfectly. It shortens the time of hole expanding and allows your untouched ears to get cool wide flesh tunnels at no time. Still professional specialists do not recommend it because it may cause blood loss and it's quite painful and takes a longer time to get healed. The third way is called punching and is carried out with the help of a special razor pressed into the lobe. So it cuts out a circular piece of flesh and a large plug gets set in. It's the least recommended way of creating such a piercing for it's really painful and there's no way of silting such flesh openings. Most professionals recommend gradual stretching of ear lobes. It is easily carried out by using quality hole expanders and varying the gauge size of your accessories.
Remember, that the best way to start big gauge piercing is a puncture performed by a professional piercer. After the puncture is made, you're responsible to look after it. It involves mild stretching, daily disinfection, wearing head-gear in cold weather and choosing high-quality materials for your plugs, tunnels, rings and other accessories. Following this advice will help you keep your piercing in good condition and enjoy it.
Big Gauge piercing is extremely popular nowadays. And if you feel like being on top, it's your choice then. We offer a wide variety of accessories, such as hole expanders, ear tunnels and plugs of various sizes carefully designed to help you create a desirable image. Ear jewelry is something that easily lets you be different every day and unique every time. The widest choice of stretchers, plugs, tusks and captive bead rings gives a chance to choose the ones that are perfect for you. High quality big gauge jewelry items are available in all varieties and that gives plenty of items to choose from.

Know More About Body Piercing Before You Actually Get One for Yourself

Body art modification is being debated a lot these days. People believe that it is unnatural, risky and probably irrational to get piercings in the most unconventional areas. There may be all the criticism going on but it is also true that body art modification have been used even by the early man to scare off the enemy. Though the idea, purpose and techniques have changed today but piercing is still very popular with people from all ages and genres. It is one's individual perception and regardless to what anyone says, you can't change someone else's idea of his own body. If they want, they can get their bodies pierced in any way they want but the only thing to remember is to do it right as to protect themselves from any injury or infection
.
Awareness and education on body piercing is crucial these days. Regardless to what your feelings may be, you should know how it is done, what the risks are and if you should get yourself pierced in the first place. First question should be whether you really want it or are you trying imitating someone? If the voice inside you says it is something you should get for yourself, go for it then. Not to make a style statement, not because someone else did it and definitely not to prove anyone a point but because you would love having a piercing.
Even a piercing says a lot about you. In some cultures, it is required for women to get their ears pierced. It makes them more effeminate. So every piercing reveals a bit of your character, so you should be certain about your spot and type. There are different types of piercings that you can get - lip piercing, tragus piercing, tongue piercing, surface piercing, smiley piercing, corset piercing and many more. Which one would suit your personality the best? Tragus and lip piercings are two of the most common piercings because they don't hurt as much and even suit most of the people. For those who are looking for more unconventional piercings, hip, collarbone, nape piercings might interest you.
To answer a frequently asked query, yes it does hurt when you get your body pierced. A needle perforates your skin, enters your body and leaves a hole behind - it is supposed to hurt. But it depends on the type of piercing, where you get it and experience of the piercer. Corset piercing, for example, is one of the most hurtful piercings in the world; get it done from the best piercer and the pain will still make you gasp. Moreover, piercings get infected, rejected and migrated and there are other skin diseases that are associated with it which you should research on before you enter the studio.
This is not to discourage you but to tell you all that there is to know about it. The better informed you are, the better judgment you will make. When it is about your body and its safety, it is advised that you stop, think for some time and then make the choice. You don't have to make haste because honestly, you can get it done tomorrow or the next day but getting it today without realizing what you are getting yourself into is a stupid thing to do.
Body piercing is not something you should take lightly. So, before you make the life changing decision, make sure you have all the information on it. Body Piercing questions and answers should be known before undertaken. Know More about Tragus Piercing

Body Piercings - Skin Art: EP2

Not All Body Jewelry Is Created Equal

Body jewelry comes in all sorts of shapes and forms. There is quite the variety out there. Guaranteed, you can find a new piece of jewelry for your piercing that you never saw before every day if you looked hard enough.

Unfortunately, this variety doesn't always offer quality. In fact, you can find some downright awful body jewelry. They can be made from less then desirable materials. They can be made poorly. They can even get to the point of just being bad for you.
Running an online retailer for piercing jewelry has forced me to find some bad pieces of body jewelry out there. Some of these findings is from research while others are just first hand experience. This is what I have learned thus far.
One of the most common types of materials used for piercings is acrylic. There are many reasons for this. Some pretty cool designs can be made out of acrylic. Acrylic is cheap so not only production costs can be kept small but retail prices can be can be very appealing. It is also very lightweight. However, it is one of those materials that you should try and avoid. The first thing that makes acrylic undesirable is that it can not be autoclave sterilized, one of the best ways to sterilize. Also, alcohol can cause it to degrade. If it can't be sterilized than there are bound to always be germs or dirt or really anything on it. Also, acrylic isn't meant for long term use. Anyone that tells you it is should immediately cause red flags to go up.
Another popular material for use in piercing jewelry is what is considered "organic" body jewelry. However, it isn't that great for use in piercings. Nearly all materials used in organic piercing jewelry are extremely porous. This means they can never be completely cleaned as it is impossible to get every little pore clean. This also means that they can harbor bacterial and other bad things. Why would you want to risk it? Most organics cannot be autoclave sterilized either.
Non surgical steel one of the most popular metals to use in body jewelry. It is one of the cheapest metals to use. It is durable. Overall it is a desirable material to be worn in a piercing. It can even be autoclave sterilized. However, it may not be the best material for you. Most people won't have a problem with it. However, these "regular" steel piercing jewelry can contain a fair amount of nickel which can cause allergic reactions among some people. Overall, it is recommended to not use these steel pieces for you piercings if possible.
Now, you could have piercing jewelry that is made of an acceptable material. That is the first step in the right direction. However, there are other things that may make them undesirable. First off, they just could be plainly poorly made. Some manufacturers only care about the quick buck. They could have sharp edges that aren't supposed to be there. They could use a cheap glue to hold pieces in place, like gems. Poor glass makers will make body jewelry that can break under normal circumstances. You need to make sure what you are buying is quality.
So, there are all these bad things out there in the body jewelry world. What should you look for? Well Surgical Steel, a high grade stainless steel, is a great place to start. The recommendation is that this should be the bare minimum you go for. Niobium is next up on the scale. Titanium is probably the best metal you can buy for your piercings. There is absolutely no nickel in it and so it is one of the most hypoallergenic metals out there. Glass is a great material for use in piercings as well. Just be sure that what you are buying is quality. Silicone is an okay material. The only problem with it is that it creates a seal between it and your piercing which can cause complications. It is great for short term use.
All of the recommended materials above can be autoclave sterilized. This is the method hospitals use to sterilize their equipment. If at all possible, it is highly recommended that you buy sterilized body jewelry. This guarantees a number of things. Poor quality piercing jewelry can not stand the pressure created in an autoclave. An autoclave guarantees everything that can cause infections is killed on the body jewelry. If you get a new piercing, you should be getting sterilized body jewelry for the initial piercing no matter what. Otherwise, you are asking for trouble.
There you have it. It should be clear now that all body jewelry is not created equal and hopefully now you can shop smarter so you can prevent any sort of undesirable circumstance from happening. After all, it is better safe than sorry.
The author of this piece is Jonathan Rudzitis. Jonathan runs Pierced Edge which buys and sterilizes its body jewelry for the general public.
All of this information was gained thanks to Pierced Edge. Pierced Edge is an online retailer of strictly sterilized body jewelry. Sterilized body jewelry guarantees high quality, safe, and clean body jewelry.

Body Art Modification: Make a Style Statement With Body Piercing and Tattoo

Body Art: Is It Risky?
Body art has always been a topic of controversy. According to many people, it is a little risky and one may also get injured. There is a lot of controversy involved with body art but the fact is that it is becoming more and more popular among the young generation.
Though the purpose of body art was to scare the enemies in the ancient times but it is now a mere style statement. It is your personal choice to get your body pierced the way you want but you should always protect yourself from any infection or injury.
Educate Yourself
Remember, it's very important to educate yourself about tattoos and piercings. Firstly, you should learn about the tattoo process. Ask the professional about the different risks involved with the tattoo process. The very first question you should ask yourself is whether you actually want a tattoo or perhaps trying to imitate someone.
If your inner voice says you really want a tattoo then your next task is to look for a professional artist. A tattoo or any other form of body art says everything about your personality. So it's very important to choose the right spot and design. Look at some of the different piercings offered by the body art parlours:-
Different Types Of Piercings
  • Lip piercing
  • Tongue piercing
  • Tragus piercing
  • Surface piercing
  • Corset piercing
  • Smiley piercing
  • Nape piercing
  • Hip piercing
  • Collarbone piercing
Look For A Reputed Tattoo Parlour
Presently there are many body art shops in existence. However, it is a difficult task to choose the best body art shop. It is very important to find how long the art shop has been in business. This will help you to know how much experience they have.

When you have decided to get a tattoo you should now look for a professional artist/body art parlour. It is very important to choose a good parlour.
